PRINCIPAL - JOB DESCRIPTION

Grace Academy, a K4-12 ACSI-accredited school, dedicated to offering quality, Christian education, is seeking to hire a Principal for the 2017-18 academic year. He/she will be responsible for providing sound Biblical, Christian leadership, including a wholesome spiritual, intellectual and professional climate in the school.

The Principal must be in agreement with the school’s Mission Statement, Vision and Statement of Faith, and be willing to apply all school policies and procedures in a judicious manner.

The Principal will oversee the entire faculty, professional leadership team, and administrative, volunteer and custodial staff.

Specifically, the Principal will be responsible for all educational obligations, working closely with the leadership team, to include admissions, curriculum development, personnel issues, scheduling, athletics, faculty observations/evaluations, special programs and chapel.  

In general, he/she will work co-operatively with the Headmaster on issues regarding instructional technology, general policy development, marketing and communication, security issues, business and financial strategies, and the International student program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education, but a Graduate degree in Education, Educational Management or Educational Leadership from an accredited institution is preferred; an ACSI Head of School Certificate or state-approved Assistant Principal or Principal’s standing is advantageous.

Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of K-12 teaching experience with two to four years of K-12 school supervision. The candidate should possess 3-5 years of curriculum and instruction development as Head of School, assistant principal or principal. Multi-cultural familiarity is a benefit.

  • Monitoring faculty professionalism towards measured student outcomes.

  • Outreach, missionary trip, chapel and in-house Christian special programs.

  • Understanding and encouraging the use of technology in the classroom.

  • Developing a team concept towards school management.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the administrative success, selection and coordination of all school programs, human resources and facilities.

  • Provides leadership to a planning process designed and intended to assure the school’s readiness and ability to provide a sound, relevant, and spiritual educational experience for students.

  • Ensures that the school is in compliance with all applicable governmental laws and regulations.

  • Aids Headmaster in maintaining school data for accreditation purposes.

  • Provides the leadership and management skills necessary to maximize the efforts of teachers and students in an environment conducive to spiritual and educational enhancement, growth and achievement.

  • Articulates clearly the school’s philosophy based on mission and goals.

  • Attends most school functions.

  • Executes the financial policy set by the Headmaster with the school Controller.

  • Co-operates with Marketing Director on communicating policy decisions to parents.

  • Establishes objectives and procedures to ensure operational efficiency with Building and Grounds personnel.

  • Serves as the leader to staff/faculty for spiritual development by setting devotions schedule.

  • Assists in the recruitment, selection and employment of teaching and non-teaching staff.

  • Oversees and coordinates recruitment of students.

  • Co-operates with Lead Teachers to coordinate curriculum.

  • Supervises teacher and student assessments.

  • Coordinates all internal and external school communications with Marketing and Communications Director.

  • Actively involved in public relations for the school through fundraising initiatives.

  • Advises Headmaster on facilities and equipment improvement.

  • Upgrades annually the Student/Employee Handbooks and submits to Headmaster for approval.

  • Remains informed of trends, research and legislation that may affect the school’s management, operations and policy.

  • Monitors annual budget progress with Controller and Headmaster.

  • Keeps the Headmaster informed of all aspects of school operations.

  • Informs Headmaster of any issues or concerns that may require leadership team intervention.

  • All other duties as may be assigned by the Headmaster.

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Headmaster

SALARY: The Principal position is a 12 month full-time position with full benefits and vacation packages. Salary range is $40,000 to $50,000 per year.

Grace Academy celebrates its 40th anniversary this academic year and has been committed to quality Christian education since its inception. Located on a 33-acre campus just one mile from I-81 and one hour from Washington, D.C., Grace Academy is a non-denominational, independent school that serves students in the tri-state area age four through grade 12. The school has 11 athletic teams and has won a combined 23 MDCC Championship titles. Grace Academy is accredited by the State of Maryland and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
